To maintain an active CPA license in Pennsylvania, certified public accountants have to fulfill a CPE requirement on a biannual basis.

Pennsylvania CPA CPE Requirements

In Pennsylvania, CPAs need 80 hours of continuing education every 2 years. Furthermore, CPAs must report their credits at the time of license renewal, which also occurs by December 31 of every odd-numbered year.

Please note that a renewal form will be mailed to your address 2 to 3 months before your license expires.

Specific Requirements

  • At least 20 hours of CPE per year
  • At least 4 hours of ethics courses
  • If you provide attest services, you need 24 hours in accounting and auditing
  • A maximum of 50% of credits can come from teaching or speaking
  • With board approval, a maximum of 25-50% of credits can come from authoring published books and articles or developing professional education courses
