Louisiana CPA CPE Requirements and Courses

Louisiana CPA CPE requirementsTo maintain an active CPA license in Louisiana, certified public accountants have to fulfill a CPE requirement during each 2-year reporting period.

Here is a summary for your reference:

Louisiana CPA CPE Requirements

The CPE credits have to be accumulated during a two-year reporting period, which ends on Dec 31.

Within these 2 years, CPAs registered in Louisiana should fulfill at least 80 hours of accounting continuing education (40 hours per year).

Specific Requirements

  • *Important* The LA state board only accepts “interactive” individual study CPE courses — online webinars are generally fine. The board defines acceptable individual study programs as those that are “self-study programs [that] stimulate a classroom learning process by providing ongoing responses and evaluation to the learner.”
  • If you practice audits or attestations, you need at least 8 hours in Auditing and Accounting.
  • At least 3 hours of Board-approved ethics courses (please see the CPE page link below for details).
  • No more than 20 hours can be related to personal development.
  • No more than 20 hours per year for the completion of credentialing exams.
  • A maximum of 20 hours per year for being an instructor, speaker, or lecturer.
  • No more than 10 hours per year for publishing books and other material.
  • CPE can be waived if you have applied for the “CPA inactive” status.
