Connecticut CPA CPE Requirements: Rules and Recommended Courses

Connecticut CPA CPE requirementsTo maintain active status, all CPA licensees in Connecticut have to fulfill a CPA CPE requirement on an annual basis.

Here is a summary of the Connecticut CPA CPE Requirements for your reference.

Connecticut CPA CPE Requirements

CPE credits have to be accumulated annually by June 30, but you don’t need to report them until December 31. Reporting is completed on an annual basis.

Within each year, CPAs registered in Connecticut should fulfill at least 40 hours of accounting continuing education.

You can conveniently report your CPE online from November 1 of each year. If you prefer to mail a form instead, the license renewal form can be downloaded online from the CT State Board website.

Specific Requirements

  • You can take more than 40 hours of CPE courses and can carry forward up to 20 hours to the next year.
  • Among the annual 40 hours, a maximum of 24 hours can be done via self-study.
  • If you perform attestations or compilations or sign financial statements on behalf of a firm, 8 of your annual 40 hours must be in financial statement preparation and reporting.
  • Ethics CPE: 4 hours every 3 CPE cycles (see the chart available from the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy for additional information)

A Note On CPE Course Providers

Connecticut does not pre-approve or register CPE course providers, and it is the candidate’s responsibility to make sure CPE courses comply with the guidelines set forth in the CPE regulations, Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies, § 20-280-26.
