Virginia CPA CPE Requirements and Courses

Virginia CPA CPE requirementsTo maintain an active CPA license in Virginia, certified public accountants have to fulfill the CPE requirement on a triennial basis.

Virginia CPA CPE Requirements

The CPE credits have to be accumulated and 40 hours of continuing education are due upon the renewal date, i.e. 30th of assigned month. The reporting period is Jan 1 to Dec 31 over a rolling 3-year period.

Specific Requirements

  • At least 20 hours per year
  • At least 2 hours of “Virginia-specific” ethics course per year (i.e. 6 hours per reporting period), i.e. relating to standards of conduct, Code of Virginia statutes relating to public accountancy and Board’s regulations
  • Can carry forward up to 30 CPE hours to the next reporting period
  • Self-study is allowed full credit if interactive; 1/2 credit otherwise.
