Minnesota CPA cpe requirementsTo maintain an active CPA license in Minnesota, certified public accountants have to fulfill a CPE requirement on a triennial basis.

Minnesota CPA CPE Requirements

In Minnesota, CPAs need to accumulate 120 hours of continuing education every 3 years. CPE credits should be reported at the time of license renewal, which is done every 3 years by June 30.

Specific Requirements

  • At least 20 hours per year
  • At least 8 hours in regulatory and/or behavioral ethics every 3 years
  • At least 60 hours in technical credits every 3 years
  • At least 24 hours from group and/or learning programs every 3 years (therefore, you can’t get all of your credits from self-study programs)
  • 72 credits must be from board-approved sponsors (for example, sponsors on NASBA’s National Registry of CPE Sponsors)
  • A maximum of 60 credits are allowed for teaching
  • A maximum of 60 credits are allowed for publishing books and articles
  • Carry forwards are NOT allowed
  • New CPAs are given a grace period through June 30th of the year in which the initial certificate was issued.
