South Carolina CPA CPE Requirements and Courses

South Carolina CPA CPE requirements

To maintain an active CPA license in South Carolina, certified public accountants have to fulfill a CPE requirement on an annual basis.

Here is a summary for your reference:

South Carolina CPA CPE Requirements

In South Carolina, CPAs need 40 hours of continuing education every year that must be accumulated by the time of license renewal, which occurs on January 31 every year.

Specific Requirements

  • Not more than 10 CPE hours per day
  • At least 6 hours in ethics; at least 2 of these 6 hours must be South Carolina rules and regulations
  • For self-study, not more than 20 hours per year (i.e. 50% of the requirement)
  • All self-study programs must be registered with NASBA’s QAS (Quality Assurance Services)
  • For personal development courses, not more than 8 hours per year.
  • Courses (other than self-study or personal development courses) can be carried forward to next year, up to 20 CPE hours. Please note that live webinars are NOT considered self-studies.

Note: The Board has a policy of not allowing courses that qualify for another certification (e.g. CMA, CFA, CIA) as CPE.
