You’ll need to know about the CPA CPE (Continuing Professional Education) by state as well as the AICPA CPE requirements if you are about to get a full CPA license. Here is an introduction of CPE for CPA:
AICPA CPE Requirements:
- Reporting period: begins in the fiscal year after joining the AICPA
- Requirements:
- 120 hours of CPE for each 3-year reporting period
- Retired and unemployed members and members who have temporarily left the workplace are exempt from CPE.
- Members who place their license / certificate on inactive status with their state board of accountancy AND do not hold themselves out as CPAs are exempt from the AICPA’s CPE requirement as long as their state board does not require CPE while on inactive status.
- Limitation: carry-forward credits are not allowed
- Resource:
- A lot of self-study materials are available at the AICPA’s CPE store.
- Attending CPE seminars in your area as well as teaching relevant subjects can be counted towards your CPE hours.
State Board CPA CPE Requirements
- Depends on your state. Contact information for each state is listed here.
Free CPA CPE Courses:
- FunCPE is offering CPE courses for free as part of their pilot testing program. Sounds like a good deal!
