Wiley CPA Test Bank: Walkthrough and Review

I am excited to get free access to Wiley CPA Test Bank 2024, the latest subscription-based service that provides lots of practice questions, explanations, and progress reports to students.

*Note* These are NOT review books but are online practice questions. To get the Wiley CPA review books, please click here.

An Overview

This version of Wiley CPA Test Bank contains more than 6,000 MCQ and 200+ simulation questions presented in close proximity to the actual test format. Plus, it’s updated on a quarterly basis.

Instead of buying the CD and installing the software, you can simply activate the online access by using a PIN.

When the account is activated, you will have unlimited access for one year. After the year has passed, you can extend the subscription or continue to see the application at no extra cost (but without the ability to update) as long as you complete the download to your computer.

Is This The Same As The Test Prep CD-ROM?

Yes and no — the CD-ROM has fewer functions, but the CD-ROM version can now be synced with the online version.

But if you ask me… wouldn’t it be easier to activate with a PIN vs get the CD, install the software, and then run the synchronization?

Wiley CPA Test Bank Walk-through – Text Version

1. Logging In

To get started, let’s go to CPAtestbank.com. In order to get access to this test bank, you’ll need to purchase a PIN and activate it. The PIN is a randomly generated chain of letters and alphabets that are used as a key to open your access to the test bank.

For new users, you will go to the login page, click on the “Activate PIN” button on the right side of the above screenshot, and then copy-and-paste your PIN into the box.

Once you activate the account, you become an existing user and can log in by typing n the ID and password.

2. Front Page

This is the front page where you will see the 4 parts of the exam (if you purchase all 4), each with a practice session, a pop quiz, and a test.

You will also see the technical support link — in fact, when I first tried it out, it was Labor Day, and I was pleasantly surprised that the support is available every day, including holidays.

On the support page, you can get answers to frequently asked questions, ask a specific question yourself, live chat with a technical or customer care representative, with a tab to log all your previous questions:

3. Multiple Choice Questions

Let’s take the FAR section as an example.

The great thing about Wiley’s test bank is that you can customize your practice sessions based on your needs. You can choose the sub-topics, the number of multiple choice and simulation questions depending on how much time you have learned so far, and how much time you have on any given day.

Once you press “start session,” you will see a screen replicating the actual testing environment. You’ll see that there are 4 choices for each of the MC questions.

As you progress, you will see that regardless of a correct or incorrect answer, you will be given an explanation. I would suggest that for your first time working through these practice questions, spend as much time as you need to think it through and read all the explanations (i.e. don’t worry about the time) because this is an important part of the learning process.

You can also see from the screenshot that there are little red flags marked for certain questions. If you click on the flag or if you write something in the note section, the question will be bookmarked, and you will be able to identify it in a summary page, where I am going to show you.

For practice questions, I also encourage you to make good use of the buttons in the upper right corner:

When you click on the first “notebook” button, it shows you the topic covered in this particular question. In other words, instead of flipping through the textbook and finding the corresponding topic, it can be found instantly with one click.

The second “bulb” button shows you a hint — if you prefer to get just a little bit of help to answer the question, that’s perfect for you.

You should also try out the calculator button and get used to how this calculator works before the actual exam.

4. Simulation Questions

Now let’s look at the simulation questions.

You will see the different tabs they have here — the first “Depreciation Schedule” tab is where you need to input the answers in the boxes highlighted in orange.

The second “Authoritative Literature” tab contains the reference material that you will also be getting in the actual exam.

The third “Help” tab shows you how the simulation tabs work.

And the last “Resource” tab is any extra supplementary information that you may need. Since this is a question on Present Value, a PV table is provided.

The simulations are something that you can’t fully study. The best thing you can do is to keep practicing and get comfortable with how they work.

5. Performance Analysis

I’d like to show you some of the cool analytics, as well as tools that can help you keep track and study more efficiently.

On the first “My Assessment” page, the software tracks my progress in the study.

The second “My Report” page (shown above), it’s showing some neat charts — it looks like I am quite ok with Finance Statement (green bar) but will need to work harder on Basic Concepts (red bar).

This third tab shows the “Incorrect Questions” page, which I find very handy. It logs everything that I have done wrong, how I did wrong and what the correct answer should be together with the explanation.

One of the most important study tips is to keep working and reworking on the practice questions you’ve done incorrectly until you get them right with the right reason (i.e. by understanding the concept). This page is going to be very useful to help you pass the exam on your first or next attempt.

Finally, in the “Download Center,” you will be able to download the test bank application and use it offline. Your study won’t be limited by the availability of Internet access, but you will still be able to get updates within the one year of subscription.

6. Conclusion

Are you still with me? I am impressed!

So what are the benefits again?

  1. Build up your confidence by practicing in an almost-real testing environment
  2. Get comfortably covered with thousands of questions from every topic
  3. Teach you concepts by providing an explanation to every answer, including the wrong answers, so you can learn from mistakes
  4. Save time and improve your study efficiency by tracking your progress with performance analysis
