I decided to place this testimonial page here not only as a thank you to those who have put in their hard work and thanked me for mine, but also for those of you who have yet to take your CPA Exam and may need some inspiration and/or confirmation that since you are here visiting IPassTheCPAExam.com, you’ve come to the right place.

“Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for your email. I have a Bachelor’s in Accounting but I graduated in 1995 in a foreign but accredited university. I am planning to take BEC because I still don’t have the motivation to study. It just bores me to death! I can’t even finish Chapter one of the first review book.  I have postponed taking the test since I graduated because I just don’t have the interest to study some more.  I may be working in accounting all this time but I concentrated in one area and one type of industry… I am not so motivated but then I realized that I will never get paid well if I don’t have my CPA especially now that I am working in an environment of people who have CPA or Masters in Accounting. I feel so little compared to this people. So I want to prove to myself I can be like them and also the review will serve as my refresher course in Accounting.

Thanks for your time. You’re now my inspiration!”   – Melody (via email)

“Thank you so much for sending the tips. I just found your website the other day and it is really inspiring. I took the FAR exam one year ago and miserably failed… I thought that I understood the concept. It was really devastating to find out the score…  One week ago, I purchased the DVD again. I am not sure how long it will take… but I just want to keep trying. I just started studying again from scratch… I am already having so much trouble focusing on the dvd.. but I really do hope that I will be a CPA one day. Thanks again!!” – Mutsuko (email)

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for your surgical assessment of this qualification of high profile ( CPA). Your notes and treatment of each of the four parts made understanding of different parts of those papers quite understandable, and would go a long way in helping to create successful plan of study. I really appreciate the time and effort you spent on putting this together. It is great people like you who give people like me needed inspiration and support to move forward.

I have MBA already and currently job hunting for Corporate Finance positions here in Japan. Just missed the final interview with McKinsey & Company for a Management Accountant position, but strongly believed I would have been able to net the job in with no hassles at all having a qualification like CPA. This painful but positive experience have now made me to decide to study concurrently for a Bachelor degree in Accounting ( my bachelor degree was in Political Science), CMA ( Certified Management Accountant), and of course the CPA. No doubt, I will make use of your notes on tackling CPA, and believe I will make it happen.

Will be dropping you notes in the future regarding my progress for those qualifications. To the other folks out there who are gunning for CPA, let’s keep our spirits high, believe strongly we can achieve this, and study hard!! Victory would be ours! Let’s go GET IT !!

Michael, thanks for your kind note. It’s a great accomplishment to make it to the final round of McKinsey (I bombed in my first round :D ) and I applaud your determination in getting your CPA title. It is indeed a globally recognized qualification that’s helpful in any job related to finance.

Best of luck to you, and do come back and ask any questions that you may have along the way. Cheers, Stephanie

Stephanie,
I have 8 weeks to write my first CPA exam in Audit and Attestation. I have read your tips, but again, is there any advice for me, since I have been out of the classroom for over 6years now.

Reply

Stephanie

Hi Kwame J,
Just work on the practice question in this order:
(1) those you have done wrong a few times
(2) those you have done wrong once
(3) those in the heavily tested area
(4) the rest of the practice exams.

Bottom line is, if you are able to do all the practice exams and get them 100% correct and with the right reason, then you have a good chance of passing.

cheers, Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

First of all, your website is amazing and offers a great insight into the whole CPA application process. Thank you for that.

Here is my situation:
I have a 3 year bachelor’s degree in Accounting from India. I am applying for CPA in Ohio. I have already got my transcripts evaluated and I am aware that i do not meet the “150 semester hours requirement”. But the Ohio state requirements also mention the following:
“Earned, in lieu of completion of 150 semester hours of general college education, a minimum score of 620 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), conferral of an associate’s or baccalaureate degree from an institution recognized by CHEA or accredited by AACSB or recognized by the Board with 30 semester hours of accounting with at least one course in each of the following:
• financial accounting,
• management accounting,
• auditing, (Internal auditing may not be used for auditing, but may be used as an elective),
• taxation, and
• professional ethics and responsibilities; AND
• 24 semester hours in business subjects. ”

I have a score of 630 on my GMAT. So i guess i qualify . But i just wanted to know your opinion on this.

Please try to reply as soon as you can.

Thank you so much already,
Tasshu

Hi Stephanie,

Good that I came across your website. I am currently not into accounting field but I am a Bachelors in Commerce (B com) Graduate from India. I have Graduated about 15 yrs ago. I am going to settle in USA soon and i felt this is the best thing to do. So, how has it been with you as I read you were a non-accounting major. What does this mean? Will it be easier for me to understand the concepts as I am not from a finance/ accounting background as far as my work profile is concerned. My current work profile is totally different to what I am pursuing now (CPA) as I felt this would be an interesting one to do although I have heard a lot from people that its difficult. I have done my Certification in Financial Planning (part 1 of Uk system) when i was working with Prudential (this was required as I was a Process Leader in a call centre in Prudential) and I understand that passing CPA is only about being clear with all concepts. I have already taken home study kit of Gleim Cpa review course. Everything is too expensive. I just thought of dropping you a note as I felt while reading your website, that you would be a great source of support and encouragement.

Hi Stephanie

I have been going through your site for a few months now and i must thank you for putting so much valuable information. However I have some doubts in my mind and would be glad if you could share some info.
1) I am a CA from India and currently living in atlanta, came here with my husband. I have around 7 years of experience in internal audit and corporate finance ( all in industry), I have been looking for a job here but for no luck. I plan to do CPA to brighten my job prospects. Do you think it will help? My main concern is since CPA license requirements require experience and it generally takes 1-2 year to get license, what is your status in the mean time you get the license? Can you apply for jobs which require CPA or not. Would the employers consider you a CPA without a license or not?
2) Though I am living in GA I am planning to give exam from California as the GA requirements are very rigid. In that case does it limit the job prospects both in public accounting and Industry?
I would be very glad if you could share your thoughts. I am sure these doubts will be there in lot of candidates’ minds.
Thanks

Hi Stephanie really great website I got lots of information needed. I would like to know as a international student will I be required to do extra tax course in US as I didnt study at US tax? I want to do the exam in New York as I’m married to a New Yorker. I returned home( South Africa) to finish my 4 year degree. Will I be required to take the CPA exams and pass all 4 before I start to work or can I work at a CPA firm while preparing for the exams? How will being an international student affect my ability to pass the exam? What does 150 semster hours mean, the time spend in class? How easy will it be to find a job after I passed the CPA exam? or I was thinking maybe I should be an intern at some nice place and get my CPA license than apply for a job at the same firm.

If I pass the exams, I think I have a higher chance to get a job and the SSN. If I pass all exams how much time do I have to get the SSN? On the other hand, can I take the California CPA exams now and then tranfer to Illinois after I get my Master Degree?

Many people have left comments like “your 10 days email mini course was helpful”, but I don’t feel like that way. I felt the the emails was more like advertisements to lead people to your e-course with charge.

Things you wrote about the cpa in the email are pretty basic, and those who comments favorably must never have researched about the exam by themselves. I am very disappointed with the contents from the first email you sent.

Greetings Stephanie,
I wanted to take the time out from studying to say a very heartfelt thank you for the service that you are providing. At the beginning of my journey, I felt a little overwhelmed and wondered if I was making a huge mistake because it all seemed so impossible to me. However, after receiving your daily emails full of advice and support, I realized that I can and will do this. I really wanted to thank you for your review of the different review courses. As you know, they can be pricy and choosing the wrong one can put you on the path to failure as everyone learns different. I was leaning towards Becker CPA Review, but after your words of wisdom, I went with Yaeger and I am learning so much as the course is awesome and easy to follow. Plus it does use the Wiley products which I am familiar with. I know that with this review course, I am sure to receive passing grades on all of the sections.
I also appreciate the link to find out the requirements of each state. I am about to move to another state so learning the differences was easy to assess. I thank you for that as well. — Sarah

P.S. Anyone out there that is on the fence about taking this e-course, it is completely free and legit. It will help you. ~ Cheers to you Stephanie. There should be more like you out there for us aspiring CPAs.

Stephanie:

First of all congratulation for informative website. Though I have not explored fully, but your site looks impressive. I am thinking of doing my CPA for long time, I think I should have done when I was just out of college. Now with full time job and two little kids its seems hard, but I am sure it’s doable. Now I have specific question for you, Its seems you are working in corporate finance. I have 10+ years corporate accounting experience in large scale organization. Presently working in SEC filing (external reporting) area. What do you think, how hard is for passing these exams for person with good amt of experience? Yes I know one can fail exam if he is not organized and not study at all. But from your experience, how many strong hours one need to study? (keeping in mind about above criteria). Please share your thoughts if it is possible.

Also on side note, regarding acquiring 150 credits… have you explore CLEP exams? (3 credits for 100 dollars), I know many states except CLEP exams.

Hi Stephanie:

Thank you for taking the time to research all the relevant information one would need to know before sitting for the CPA and provide to us your results. Your mini course shows the subject and percentage of each tested area and study tactics. The study tactics give a bright view of hidden or not thought of topics that are normally underestimated by us and may be the subject area that could be the cause of our passing or failing. It is good to have that nudge in the right direction, and you provide that nudge to us.
