Nebraska is a two-tier state, i.e. the state grants both a CPA certificate and license. Candidates are required to fulfill 150 creidt hours in order to sit for the CPA exam.
Please also note that only local residents are granted CPA license in this state.
Nebraska CPA Exam Requirements
1. Education Requirements To Sit For The Exam:
- Bachelor degree or above with accounting concentration
- 150 semester units from an accredited university or educational institution
- Accounting courses: 30 semester units (has to be intermediate level or above)
- General business courses: 36 semester units

2. Additional Requirements To Get CPA Certificate / License:
Montana is a two-tier state, i.e. the State Board issues a certificate and a permit to practice. For the different between CPA certificate vs license please click here.
(i) CPA Certificate
- Passing of the CPA exam
- Passing of the CPA ethics exam administered by the AICPA
- Working experience: not required
(ii) CPA Permit To Practice (License)
- Working experience: 2 years of public or non-public accounting experience supervised and verified by an active CPA licensee
3. Residency & Age Requirements:
- US citizenship not required
- Candidate must be a resident, employee, or keep an office in the state
- Minimum age: none
4. Fees:
- First-timers: $823 (4 CPA exam fees) + $160 (initial application fee, depending on the number of sections) = $983
- Repeaters: exam fees + $65-110 repeat application fees

Can’t Get Qualified In NE?
Don’t give up, as you may well be qualified to register through other states and sit for the same CPA exam. With the recent Substantial Equivalency (CPA reciprocity) rule CPAs from most states can practice across the country.
