Maryland CPA exam requirementsMaryland has a relatively strict rules in the accounting courses you need to take for the exam. It will be helpful if your school is teaching in accordance to the Board approved curriculum (see below).

Maryland CPA Exam Requirements

1. Education Requirements To Sit For The Exam:

  • Bachelor degree or above with accounting concentration
  • 150 semester units from an accredited university or educational institution
  • Course requirement:

2. Additional Requirements To Get CPA License:Education:

  • Same as the exam requirement

Work Experience:

  • 1 year of accounting experience (2,000 hours) verified and “endorsed” by a licensed CPA
  • By “endorsement” my interpretation is that the CPA does not necessarily need to be your supervisor; but please check with state board for details.

Ethics Qualification:

  • US citizenship not required
  • Maryland residency not required
  • Minimum age: 18

4. Fees:

  • First-timers: $895 (4 CPA exam fees) + $60 (initial application fee) = $955
  • Repeaters: exam fees + $65-110 repeat application fees
  • License fee: $20 (initial); $80 (renewal)

Can’t Get Qualified In Maryland? Don’t give up, as you may well be qualified to register through other states and sit for the same CPA exam. With the recent Substantial Equivalency (CPA reciprocity) rule CPAs from most states can practice across the country.
