Kentucky has a simple education requirement but requires 150 semester units to sit for the exam. After the Uniform CPA exam and Ethics exam, 1 year of public or non-public accounting experience is enough to get the CPA license. The great thing is that this experience needs to be verified but not necessarily supervisedby a CPA.
Kentucky CPA Exam Requirements
1. Education Requirements To Sit For The Exam:
- Bachelor degree or above
- 150 semester units from an accredited university or educational institution
- Course requirement:
- Accounting: 30 semester units
- General business: 27 semester units
2. Additional Requirements To Get CPA License:Education:
- Same as the exam requirement
Work Experience:
- 1 year of public or non-public accounting experience (i.e. accounting experience in government, industry, academia or public practice is qualified).
- The experience has to be verified by an active CPA but no need to be supervised by one.
- College teaching can also be qualified: 1-year of teaching (24 semester hours in accounting) at an institution of higher education
Ethics Qualification:
- Passing of the CPA Ethics Exam administered by the AICPA.
3. Residency & Age Requirements:
- US citizenship not required
- Kentucky residency not required, but candidate must have a Kentucky mailing address.
- Minimum age: 18
4. Fees:
- First-timers: $823 (4 CPA exam fees) + $30 (initial application fee) + $30-120 (per section fee) = $883-973
- Repeaters: exam fees + $30 per section

Can’t Get Qualified In Kentucky? Don’t give up, as you may well be qualified to register through other states and sit for the same CPA exam. With the recent Substantial Equivalency (CPA reciprocity) rule CPAs from most states can practice across the country.
