Are there really free CPA Exam Questions out there?
It might be hard to believe, but there are CPA exam questions available for everyone to use on the Internet.
The following is a collection of free CPA exam questions I can find. Please note that there are various limitations as you can expect from any freebies:
1. AICPA Official Tutorial And Sample Tests
This is a must-try in my opinion. There are only a few questions in the sample test, and the purpose is for you to understand how the questions (especially the simulations) are formatted so you don’t need to spend time to figure it out during the actual exam.
- Pros: This is a must-try in my opinion, especially if you rely only on textbooks and have no access to the questions in computerized format.
- Cons: This is only a sample test and definitely not enough to prepare you for the exam.

2. Wiley CPA Software – Trial
Wiley CPA review is kind enough to provide a free version of its CPA software. This is catered mostly for college students but everyone is eligible to get a copy.
- Pros: There are a few hundred practice problems for each section as well as excerpts from the Wiley study books.
- Cons: The questions come from version 13, i.e. 1 version older than the current version so you will miss the latest update, e.g. SFAS 141(R) for FAR.

3. Gleim Free CPA Diagnostic Quiz and Practice Exam
Gleim CPA review also provides some form of freebie via a diagnostic quiz and practice exam.
- Pros: Gleim’s exam interface is very close to the real thing, which is great. You can also get answers with explanations for the diagnostic quiz.
- Cons: For the practice exam, they email you a score but there is no explanation.

4. Kaplan CPA Review: Free BEC Study Material
I have to say the most generous of all the review course providers is Kaplan: they provide BEC study materials for free!
- Pros: it’s a full package including study manual, video, DVD, audio CD, flash cards and even study calendar.
- Cons: Comments on this product (and Kaplan CPA Review in general) is only so-so. You can click here for my evaluation of Kaplan CPA review product.

5. CPA Review For Free
It’s not as good as the paid CPA review courses in my opinion, but worth a try if you have extra time. You can get my evaluation on CPA Review For Free here.
6. Questions Released by AICPA
The AICPA recently released questions are also a good review tool. If you sign up for the major CPA review courses, chances are that they have integrated these questions in.
So There Is Free Lunch Afterall?
Not really, in my opinion. These resources are great, but the problem is they are either:
- Insufficient
- Subpar quality
- Prone to excessive marketing after giving away your contact information
Unless you are really tight in budget, I would go for the full CPA exam review course, because my time is very (if not more) valuable. If you haven’t already, please check out:

- Yaeger CPA Review which I personally believe is the best value for money in the current market.

See you there!
