CPA CPE Courses: 3 Reasons Why I Recommend CPACampus

I have been looking around for good online CPA CPE courses for recommendation to my readers — and finally landed on CPAcampus and find their offerings pretty attractive. I am going to review this online CPE provider with a detailed pros and cons analysis.

I Prefer Online CPA CPE Courses

First of all, I have to tell you that I am biased towards online courses, simply because these are usually self-paced study courses that can be done according to my schedule and in the comfort of my home, or anywhere with an Internet connection. Also, there is no commute so can avoid unnecessary idle time and the hassle or running back and forth to the course site.

Obviously, not everyone will agree with me. That’s why I’d like to make my preference clear and if you are looking for CPE courses with classroom setting, please check out elsewhere.

Having said that, in certain state you can only take a certain number of hours of self-study CPE courses and the rest has to be done in an interactive manner in classroooms or via webinar.

Frankly, many of us are taking these accounting continuing education courses solely for compliance purposes, so it is important to pick a course provider that is, well, cheap and efficient. CPAcampus scores pretty high in both of these categories.

In particular, the current offer that they are holding — $199 for unlimited course enrollment — is an excellent deal when most of the CPE courses you get anywhere costs more than $100.

(Remember the AICPA CPA Ethics exam you took earlier? It costs around $130)

2. Wide Variety Of CPE Courses

While trying to fulfill the CPE requirements, we’d like to find some courses that are at least remotely interesting, right?

CPAcampus doesn’t have hundreds of courses like some of its competitors, but for 2010 at least, they do have [ ] which I think is sufficient and more manageable.

There are some nice features on their site as well. For example, they have a “CE reminder” system in place – simply type in your name, email and the CPE expiration date and you will receive a much appreciated reminder email in appropriate time.

Provides Courses To Limited States Only

Since it only provides CPE courses for 20 states, you are out of luck for the rest.

Having said that, I do appreciate that they are pretty clear on this so you won’t get into the position where you take the course and turns out it can’t be recognized.
