For Vermont CPA Exam requirements, the State Board only requires 60 credit hours to sit for the exam, and a Bachelor degree to get the CPA license.
After passing the CPA exam, you will need to accumulate 1-4 years of experience under the direct supervision of an active CPA licensee.
Vermont CPA Exam Requirements
1. Education Requirements To Sit For The Exam:
- Bachelor degree or above
- 60 semester units from an accredited university or educational institution
- Course requirement: 30 semester units of business course, including
- 6 hours of non-elementary accounting
- 3 hours of auditing
- 3 hours of US income tax
- 3 hours of US business law
2. Additional Requirements To Get CPA Certificate:
Work Experience
- 1-4 years of public or non-public accounting experience, depending on the level of degree (bachelor vs masters degree). Please note that non-public accounting experience must parallel public accounting experience – please double check with State Board for individual cases.
- The experience has to be supervised and vertified by a licensed CPA or equivalent (generally means CPA from Austrlia, or CA from Australia, Canada, Ireland, and Mexico. Please double check with VT State Board).
- You will have 8 years to complete the experience requirements after passing the CPA exam.
Ethics Qualification
- Passing of the CPA Ethics Exam administered by AICPA.
3. Residency & Age Requirements:
- US citizenship not required
- Vermont residency not required
- Minimum age: none
4. Fees:
- First-timers: $823 (4 CPA exam fees) + $ 220 (initial application fee) = $1,043
- Retakers: exam fees + $65-110
